How the Seahawks Suffered Buccaneers Offensive Resurgence
Week 10 in Germany saw Seattle's defense matched up with the GOAT quarterback. For this young unit, the subsequent lesson delivered by Tampa Bay will prove valuable for the rest of the 2022 season:
In their 21-16 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Seattle Seahawks unfortunately suffered a near-perfect game from Tom Brady and his offense—even if they ‘only’ conceded three touchdowns, one controversial given the bizarrely waved-off offensive pass interference flag.
“I’m hoping that not everybody throws the ball and catches the ball with guys hanging all over them like they did,” Carroll said Tuesday of the Buccaneer’s aerial attack.
The Seahawks head coach described Brady as “a great quarterback” with “a great group of receivers,” finishing with: “I know that they had been dropping balls in other games, but they didn’t drop anything, they owned the football. They whipped us, we were really close, and hopefully as we go forward, those plays come to us again as they have been in the last month.”
As for Tampa Bay’s rushing? “They were committed, and they stuck to it,” Carroll described. “They weren’t having to get seven or eight-yard plays to keep them pumped up about it, they knew that they were able to make yards, be positive, and take advantage of it.”
Seattle was also outschemed and outcoached in big moments by Tampa Bay offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. This also showed up in the pass and run game, with Leftwich finding ways to successfully attack the Seahawks’ coverage and defensive front rules.
“They ran a variety of scheme plays and they attacked us in a particular way that we just didn’t fit consistently enough to control the running game,” Carroll said of the run.
And finally, even with the stress imparted by the Buccaneers’ intelligent play design, the Seahawks also made some big mistakes of their own that they could not afford against a fully firing opponent. “There were a couple of those,” admitted Carroll.
